A Moment in Print: The World of Interiors Feature

In March 2016, I opened my copy of The World of Interiors to find my work featured in their "Artistic Impressions" section—a moment that still feels surreal when I think about it.

The piece they chose was one from my sweet pea series, delicate blooms rendered in soft tones that captured something I'd been exploring for months in my Karoo studio. There's something about sweet peas—their ephemeral nature, the way they seem to dance on their stems, the translucency of the petals—that speaks to both fragility and resilience.

To see it published in The World of Interiors, a magazine synonymous with impeccable taste and international design excellence, was validating in ways I hadn't anticipated. This wasn't just any feature; it was recognition from one of the most prestigious interiors

publications in the world, placing my work

alongside established artists whose careers I'd long admired.

What struck me most about being included in that particular issue was the calibre of artists featured alongside me. The "Artistic Impressions" pages showcased work from British and international artists—painters, sculptors, contemporary creators working in bold abstracts and classical styles alike. To be among them felt like arriving at a destination I hadn't quite realised I'd been travelling toward.

Working from my studio in the Karoo, sometimes the distance from major art centres feels vast. But moments like this—seeing your work in print, knowing it's being viewed by designers, collectors, and art lovers around the world—collapse that distance entirely. The location becomes irrelevant when the work speaks for itself.

The sweet pea painting represented more than just technical skill or aesthetic choice. It was part of a larger body of work exploring the botanical world with realist portraiture techniques, finding beauty in the small and overlooked, celebrating the delicate details that often go unnoticed in our rush through daily life.

That feature in The World of Interiors came at a pivotal time in my creative journey. It affirmed that the path I'd chosen—working from this remote, beautiful corner of South Africa, staying true to my artistic vision, focusing on subjects that moved me rather than chasing trends—was valid

My love for sweet peas hasn't waned. I've completed new works featuring sweet peas and mixed botanicals, continuing to explore these delicate subjects that first caught the attention of The World of Interiors. These pieces are now available in my shop, each one a continuation of that journey that began years ago in my Karoo studio—capturing the fleeting beauty of flowers that remind us to pause and notice the extraordinary in the everyday.
